Looser and dirtier than the band's epic Southern story-cycles, this runs on barroom guitar crunch and ragged harmonies, half the songs cut within hours of being written. "Gravity's Gone" rides a boozy Cooley swagger; "Aftermath USA" is all blown-out morning-after debris. Then the closer "A World of Hurt" pulls everything down to a confessional hush. It's Jason Isbell's last stand with the group, and the end of the three-guitar lineup. Drop the needle and hear a great band fighting through.
