Rick Rubin approached Cash after Nashville had abandoned him, and they recorded this in Cash's Tennessee cabin and Rubin's living room. Almost entirely solo acoustic guitar and voice. No drums, no band, no studio gloss. 'Delia's Gone' is dark and menacing. Glenn Danzig's 'Thirteen' bridged Cash to punk and metal fans. Monumental and viscerally bare.
