His son John Carter Cash and engineer David Ferguson stripped these demos bare, then laid in fresh playing from Marty Stuart and David Roe so it breathes like a band in a small room. "Spotlight" rides a loping rhythm that lets that weathered baritone do the work. Waylon Jennings's original backing vocals survive intact. A lost chapter found, and it sounds like Cash sitting across the table from you.
