Finally the Heartbreakers' only studio album pulled clear of its notoriously muddy original mix, the guitars now sharp and snarling. "Chinese Rocks" is the catchiest song ever written about heroin, a chugging hook you hate yourself for humming. "Born to Lose" is anthemic and desperate in equal measure, the chorus half-swagger, half-surrender. Sloppy, urgent, street-level punk with the Dolls' glam sleaze stripped down and sped up. Pure New York gutter glory.
