Darker and more eclectic than Purple Rain's soundtrack. 'Thieves in the Temple' is a haunting dance track built on pulsating synth bass, Middle Eastern melodies, and layered operatic vocals. Tevin Campbell's 'Round and Round' glides with smooth, youthful soul. 'New Power Generation' thumps with funk-rock swagger. A sprawling, multi-artist set that critics at the time called an improvement over Lovesexy. The movie flopped. The music didn't.
