'Bull in the Heather' features Kim Gordon's sultry, husky vocal over dark, uneasy guitars building to a climax. 'Starfield Road' is a grungy, loud burst of energy. After touring with Pavement and Sebadoh, Sonic Youth told Butch Vig they wanted rough, spontaneous takes. No polishing. If a track wasn't nailed in a couple takes, they moved on. 'Good enough!' became the studio mantra. Noise and melody cohabitate throughout. Recorded at Sear Sound in NYC, the same studio as Sister.
