Cartoon psychedelia with a mean streak. Side one packs four songs that debuted right here: George Harrison's dissonant, organ-drenched 'Only a Northern Song' and his feedback-howling 'It's All Too Much', the playground sing-along 'All Together Now', and John Lennon's piano-pounding 'Hey Bulldog', barks and all. Flip it and George Martin's orchestral score paints Pepperland in swirling strings and brass. The Beatles' cartoon soundtrack, and 'Hey Bulldog' alone earns it a spot on the shelf.
