A junkyard collage of fuzzed-out guitar rock, low-rolling hip-hop, mutated mariachi horns, spare electronica, and whiskey-stained acoustics. Reuniting with the Dust Brothers who made Odelay, Beck created something groovy and inescapably hooky. The opener 'E-Pro' snarls with a neon-pink riff that samples the Beastie Boys' 'So What'Cha Want' into a fuzzed-out stomp, while 'Girl' floats with elastic guitar lines and 'Que Onda Guero' layers abstract rapping over field recordings from an LA neighborhood. 'Broken Drum' was written for late friend Elliott Smith. The Dust Brothers deliberately used high-tech tools to achieve lo-fi grit.
