Prince's masterpiece on a picture disc. 'When Doves Cry' — famously bassless, all angular synths and falsetto tension. Sounded like nothing else in 1984 and still doesn't. 'Let's Go Crazy' opens with arguably the best intro in pop history before erupting into rockabilly-meets-funk. The title track was captured live at First Avenue in Minneapolis, with 19-year-old Wendy Melvoin making her debut and adding the opening guitar chords. The recording so electric Prince kept it. Multiple layers of guitars, keyboards, and drum machines create a sound both massive and intimate. Diamond certified.
