Bright 12-string Rickenbacker guitars ring against Benmont Tench's gleaming organ, road-worn and slightly bruised. "The Waiting" jangles toward that sun-bleached chorus everybody already knows, while "Insider" pulls the lights low for a smoky duet with Stevie Nicks, her harmony aching over Petty's wounded lead. "Something Big" creeps into noir territory. This is the one where Petty fought MCA over a dollar and won, and you can hear the stubbornness in every chord. Drop the needle.
